NAME
The League of Women Voters of Mt. Baldy Area got its start when Ruth Ordway established the Pomona Valley League of Women Voters branch in Claremont in 1938. In 1949 the group renamed itself the League of Women Voters of Claremont. Then, in 2017 we renamed ourselves League of Women Voters Mt. Baldy Area.
Over the years we became responsible for more cities. (Alta Loma, Chino, Chino Hills, Diamond Bar, Claremont, Glendora, La Verne, Montclair, Ontario, Pomona, Rancho Cucamonga, San Dimas). We wanted a name with which our entire area could relate. We all sit at the foot of Mt. San Antonio, the highest mountain in the San Gabriel Range. The local name for it is, Mt. Baldy, because you can see it from somewhere in each of our cities.
