LOCAL PROGRAM

Each year The League of Women Voters at all levels, national, state and local develop programs that guide their work for the next year or two. We educate and advocate for those issues that are most current and important to us. The issues are voted on by members and representatives, and thus represent grassroots efforts to influence government at all levels.

The League of Women Voters of Mt. Baldy Area plan all educational programs around our program issues. Our program issue for 2026 is:

Defending Democracy This single focus signals the magnitude of the challenge we face in this moment and allows us to streamline our resources and energies towards this first-order, super-ordinate goal.

STATE PROGRAM 2023-2025

Making Democracy Work in California

Climate Change and Sustainability, including a focus on Water Resources

Housing and Homelessness

Criminal Justice/Juvenile Justice Reform

NATIONAL PROGRAM 2024-2026
Campaign for Making Democracy Work®: which includes redistricting reform, voting rights protection, improving elections, money in politics, and direct election of the President by popular vote.

Support ethics in government policies at all levels (federal/state/local) and all branches (executive/legislative/judicial); encourage transparency, prohibit conflicts of interest, use of position for personal gain, corruption, nepotism, and favoritism, and support effective enforcement.

Establish statehood for the people of the District of Columbia.

Support conditions under which credible local journalism can survive and thrive.

Protect and promote the fundamental and inalienable human rights of women and girls.

Support fair and humane immigration reform.

Support reproductive rights and justice.

Support public libraries as a civil right.
